What to do next

In order. Whoever is covering the desk can follow these.

  1. In a state that issues its own controlled substance registration, renew that one first, because the DEA registration usually depends on it (confirm the order with the state).
  2. Have the provider attest to the 8 hours of opioid and substance use disorder training the MATE Act requires.
  3. Submit the renewal on the DEA site before the expiry date. Past one calendar month after expiry it becomes a new application.
  4. Record the new term here, then verify it on the DEA registration lookup.

The new term has to run later than the current one, and not longer than 72 months. Attach a copy of the renewed credential or link to it, so anyone checking can open it.

Confirmed with the issuer, not from the provider's copy. A renewal recorded early can be verified as soon as the issuer shows it, before the new term starts.
